Audi s3 and Kia stinger are the biggest offenders... After golf R and audi S1
Care to add to the list?

You can get the new Camry SE 4 cylinder with QUAD exhaust tips

The audi s3 and s1 are four bangers too

V6 cars don’t need then either!
Unless it’s a high performance thing like an M4

And the W210 E55 AMG has half that, as it doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone:

It’s a single exhaust that splits.

Quad tips ftw?
The stock exhaust is just a single but these ANSA pipes are pretty common.

Well having seperate banks is at least an excuse, Straight motors have none

My rule of thumb has always been that the exhaust/cylinder count should never exceed 1:1. For me, 2 cylinders/exhaust tips rounded down to the nearest even number if tips are non-centered, odds allowed if they are centered. The higher the hp/L the more tips I am OK with, but never to exceed 1:1

The previous Hyundai Sonata also had four tailpipes for the 2.0T.

Something something Miata:

While the block might be one bank, there is technically two banks on an i6. Cylinders 1,2,3 are bank 1 and 4,5,6 bank 2. They’re separated like that because the exhaust manifolds are generally 3 to 1 with each manifold have separate up stream 02 sensors. I believe that the 3 to 1 headers have flow benefits compared to a 6 to 1 as well.

But as far as exhaust routings concerned they always merge into one pipe and the seperate pipes are next to each other not on opposite sides of the vehicle

Unecessary dual exhaust doesn’t really bother me too much, they could make a reasonable argument that it’s about symmetry. Way worse: Plastic fake exhaust outlets.

Don’t you mean 1:2? If 1:1, V8s could have 8 exhaust tips, and I could get 6 more exhaust tips. You do you... but I think 10 tips is too many :)

Stinger has fakes... I think first mod is getting some ovals or something.
But the mufflers do have dual exists

Nah BMW runs dual pipes. The pipes don’t have to be on the opposite sides for it to be separate banks.

Ah, makes sense. Kia is already pretty rad at fake fender vents, good to see them pushing their design team into new areas.

Im saying that its reasonable to keep the pipes seperate when they are on opposite banks but when they are right next to each other it would make more since to merge them.(always was not a good word to use)
![]() 01/21/2018 at 17:31 |

Funnily enough, the fender vents are functional
What is not is the bonnet vents

I thought we were arguing about the number of tips not the placement of the tips.

NC Miata. It’s an I-4. Why? And there’s no way you couldn’t shave off at least 100 grams, maybe even more, by eliminating one of those tailpipes.

Interesting, for brake cooling? BTW, my opinion on fake vents and other styling is a little tongue in cheek. We have two Ms so it’s just something that comes up a lot in my little world.

A lot more, or by at least not having them split! Just a larger dual exit muffler if its really necessary.
![]() 01/21/2018 at 17:52 |

I don’t like them either. If I had a blank check to change the car I’d get a new bonnet without those vents, I’d get rid of the quad tips, a better interior trim, and probably some column mounted paddles
![]() 01/21/2018 at 17:57 |

It is for brake Cooling and it also fixes a bit of airflow by the side preventing a bit of lift

I was arguing that bank numbers on a straight engine are not an excuse for dual exhaust tips because the pipes will be merged before getting to the back of the car. On a v motor the banks are naturally far apart merging them may not be necessary thus dual tips is reasonable. But the whole argument is void because most exhaust systems are merged at some point with a y, x, or , h pipe these days

Four times as many exhaust TIPS than is needed. Chances are, it’s just one exhaust pipe to the back that splits off.
Now I give you a Porsche 968... 4 cylinders... one exhaust pipe/tip
